Maternity leave (repos de maternité) is 15 weeks at 82% of capped pay: the mutuelle pays 82% of uncapped salary for the first 30 days and 75% of capped salary afterwards, with one week compulsory before and nine weeks compulsory after the birth.

Birth leave for the co-parent is 20 days at 82%, of which the employer pays the first three days in full and the health insurance fund covers the remainder — a split-funding rule specific to Belgium.

Parental leave (congé parental) gives 17 weeks per parent per child at roughly 50% via an ONEM/RVA allowance, and can be taken full-time, half-time, one-fifth-time or one-tenth-time until the child turns twelve. Beyond it, the crédit-temps scheme allows career interruption with an allowance for care, training or end-of-career purposes — a mechanism with no equivalent in the German or Portuguese systems.

Statutory annual leave is 20 days on a five-day week, but Belgian holiday pay is unusual: employees receive double holiday pay (double pécule de vacances) worth roughly 92% of a month's salary, normally paid in May or June, and blue-collar workers receive it from a national holiday fund rather than from their employer.
